Asana Notifications Not Working? How to Fix It (2026)

When Asana notifications stop arriving, the usual culprits are Do Not Disturb left switched on, the wrong email notification types toggled off, alerts landing in a spam folder, or browser permissions that were never granted. Work through the checks below in order, from most common to least, and you will usually find the cause within the first two or three.

Jump to a fix:

  • 1. Check Do Not Disturb and your notification settings
  • 2. Confirm your email notification types are on
  • 3. Rescue Asana emails from spam and allowlist the sender
  • 4. Re-enable browser notifications and permissions
  • 5. Fix mobile push on iOS and Android
  • 6. Check per-project settings and your collaborator status
  • 7. Reconnect Slack notifications
  • 8. Rule out the vacation indicator

1. Check Do Not Disturb and your notification settings

Do Not Disturb is the single most common reason notifications go quiet, because it is easy to enable and easy to forget. When it is on, Asana suppresses the orange dot Inbox indicator on web and mobile, and it temporarily disables browser notifications you have set up. Start here before you touch anything else.

  1. Click your profile photo in the top bar and select Settings.
  2. Open the Notifications tab.
  3. Find the Do not disturb control and confirm notifications are not paused. If a schedule or days-off range is set, check whether today falls inside it.

While you are on the Notifications tab, note that everything routes through here: Browser notifications, Slack notifications, Project notifications, Email notifications, and Do not disturb. If a whole channel is silent, this tab is where the switch lives. Asana’s own notification settings guide walks through each control if you want the official reference.

2. Confirm your email notification types are on

Asana email notifications are granular, so it is entirely possible to receive one type and never see another. There are four broad types: Daily summary, Activity updates, Mentions, and Weekly report. Activity updates cover the day-to-day events most people expect, tasks assigned to you, due dates changed, comments and files added on tasks you collaborate on, and completions.

  1. Click your profile photo and select Settings, then open the Notifications tab.
  2. Click the Email notifications drop-down.
  3. Check the box beside each notification type you want to receive. Uncheck anything you do not.
  4. Confirm the email address shown is one you actually monitor. To change it, add the new address first, then remove the old one.

Two quirks worth knowing. Asana only sends activity notifications for actions taken by other people, never for your own edits, so if the only “missing” alerts relate to your own changes, that is expected. And the Weekly report email is limited to Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise+ tiers (plus legacy Business and Enterprise), so it will not appear on lower plans. If your Daily summary looks thin, remember it draws on assigned and upcoming work, the same tasks you manage in your Asana My Tasks setup.

3. Rescue Asana emails from spam and allowlist the sender

If the settings are correct but emails still never land, the message is almost certainly being filtered before you see it. Asana notification emails are sent from an asana.com address (commonly a no-reply@asana.com sender), and corporate mail gateways and consumer spam filters sometimes hold or reject them.

  1. Search your Spam or Junk folder for messages from asana.com.
  2. Mark any you find as Not spam, then add the sender to your contacts or safe-sender list.
  3. Add the asana.com domain to your email allowlist. On a work account, ask your IT or email administrator to allowlist it at the gateway level.
  4. Check for any inbox rules or filters that auto-archive or delete Asana mail.

One timing note that is often mistaken for a failure: Asana batches lower-priority updates. Critical alerts like task assignments go out individually within about 30 seconds, but less important updates can be collected and sent up to roughly an hour later. If an email feels late rather than missing, batching is usually why. The full behavior is documented in Asana’s email notifications article.

4. Re-enable browser notifications and permissions

Browser notifications are the pop-ups Asana pushes even when no Asana tab is open, and they depend on two separate permissions: one inside Asana and one inside your browser. Both have to be granted. Browser notifications are supported on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

  1. In Asana, open Settings and the Notifications tab, then choose from the Browser notifications options: Updates on your work, Communication, Updates to work you collaborate on, and Summaries. Selecting Nothing turns them off entirely.
  2. When the browser’s permission prompt appears asking whether to allow app.asana.com to display notifications, click Allow.
  3. If you previously clicked block, open your browser’s site settings for app.asana.com and switch notifications back to Allow.

Asana shows browser notifications for a defined set of events, mainly task assignments and being added as a collaborator or @mentioned, so do not expect a pop-up for every minor change. Also check your operating system’s own notification settings, since Windows Focus Assist or macOS Focus can silence browser pop-ups system-wide without Asana knowing.

5. Fix mobile push on iOS and Android

Mobile push has its own layer of permissions at the device level, and one Asana-specific behavior trips people up: Asana tends to hold back mobile push while it detects you are actively using Asana on a desktop, on the assumption you have already seen the update. If push only fails while you are at your computer, that is likely the cause rather than a bug.

  1. Open your device’s system Settings, find the Asana app, and confirm notifications are allowed, including banners, sounds, and lock-screen display.
  2. In the Asana mobile app, open your Account settings and check Do not disturb is not paused or scheduled for the current time.
  3. Confirm the device is not in a system-level Do Not Disturb or Focus mode.
  4. If push is still silent, sign out and back in, or update the app, which re-registers the device for push.

6. Check per-project settings and your collaborator status

Notifications in Asana are tied to what you follow. You receive Inbox and email updates for projects you are a member of and for tasks where you are a collaborator. If updates from one specific project have gone quiet while everything else works, the problem is scoped to that project, not your account.

  1. Open the project and click Share in the upper right.
  2. Click Manage notifications and choose which events notify you: Status updates, Messages, and Tasks added.
  3. To set defaults across projects, use the Project notifications section of the Notifications tab, including Manage individual projects.

If you are missing updates on a single task, confirm you are still listed as a collaborator, since being removed silently stops notifications for that task. In your Inbox, you can also narrow what you are looking at with the Assigned to me, @Mentioned, Assigned by me, and Unread only filters. A filter left applied can make a full Inbox look empty. For a deeper tour of the Inbox, see Asana’s Inbox article.

7. Reconnect Slack notifications

Slack notifications are a separate integration, and they break independently of Asana’s other channels, usually when the connection is dropped or was never finished. Slack notifications require a paid Asana subscription.

  1. Go to the Notifications tab of Settings and find Slack notifications.
  2. Complete the setup flow to connect Asana and Slack if you have not already.
  3. Once connected, click the drop-down arrow under Slack notifications and confirm the Notify me via Slack toggle is on.

If the toggle is on but Slack stays quiet, the link between the two apps has usually lapsed and needs to be reauthorized. Our Asana and Slack integration setup guide covers reconnecting the app and choosing which projects post to which channels.

8. Rule out the vacation indicator

The vacation indicator is worth a quick mention because it is often misunderstood. Set from your profile settings, it flags you as away and can show a return date to teammates when they mention you or assign you work. What it does not do is silence the notifications you receive. If you want to actually stop alerts while you are out, use Do not disturb rather than relying on the away status to mute anything.

When it is not Asana at all

If notifications are failing across several apps at once, the common thread is usually your device or email environment, not any one tool, an aggressive spam filter, a system Focus mode, or revoked browser permissions. The same troubleshooting order applies to ClickUp notification problems, Jira notification issues, and monday.com notifications. And if you are still setting up projects, starting from one of the best Asana templates for 2026 keeps your notification defaults sensible from day one.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my Asana notifications suddenly stop?

The most frequent causes are Do Not Disturb being switched on, a notification type toggled off in Settings, or emails newly diverted to spam by a filter change. Work through Do Not Disturb, your email notification checkboxes, and your spam folder in that order, and you will usually find the trigger quickly.

Why are Asana emails going to my spam folder?

Corporate mail gateways and consumer spam filters sometimes hold messages from Asana’s asana.com sender address. Mark a message as not spam, add the sender to your safe list, and allowlist the asana.com domain. On a work account, ask your email administrator to allowlist it at the gateway so future notifications arrive reliably.

Why do I get Asana notifications on desktop but not on my phone?

Asana tends to withhold mobile push while it detects you are active in Asana on a computer. It also depends on device-level permission. Check that push is allowed for the Asana app in your phone’s system settings, and confirm mobile Do Not Disturb is not paused or scheduled for the current time.

Do I need a paid plan for Slack notifications?

Yes. Connecting Asana to Slack through the Notifications tab requires a paid Asana subscription. Once connected, you manage delivery with the Notify me via Slack toggle. If Slack goes quiet despite the toggle being on, the authorization between the two apps has usually lapsed and needs to be reconnected.

Does the vacation indicator stop my notifications?

No. The vacation indicator only signals to teammates that you are away and can display your return date when they mention or assign you. It does not pause the notifications you personally receive. To actually silence alerts while you are out of office, enable Do Not Disturb instead.
